So far, so good… we’ve got two in the can now. I’ve really been enjoying all the DDOP podcasts that I’m trying to catch up on now, and I’m also working on scrobbling all my podcast listening to a new (podcast-only) last.fm account. At least that’s the idea…not quite happening yet. Time to tweak the fiddly bits.

Annnddd…I’m back!! So instead of the Dog Days of Podcasting, I’m here for more of the Dog Days of the Dog Days! Ah well, better late than never. Nothing much going on today other than checking in; I’ll try to get more done tomorrow. Happy Dog Days, everyone!

Zoinks! Not only did this take awhile for me to *do*, it took over a week to get uploaded and posted! Sigh. Well, I hope everyone had a happy holiday. As for the podcast, it’s my first in the car, and I’ve only listened to it for a few seconds post-processed. I hope it sounds ok. I discuss that fact (car recording), talk about the holidays a bit, speak about our dog Toby passing, and mention that I’m considering doing transcription of my podcasts. HA! Let’s just get them uploaded in a timely fashion before we start thinking about that!

More sad news; I should post more than podcasts and RIPs here, I’m thinking. Our black lab Toby had to be put to sleep yesterday. It happened very fast; the photo shown here was from only 8 days before his last. He was going to the vet, because we were a little concerned than he had become very picky with his eating, and was having just the smallest amount of trouble with his hips. The vet found very little that day, but things progressed quickly. We had to make that difficult pet owner’s choice yesterday, and keep things from getting worse. He wasn’t in pain, but he was confused, and things weren’t getting better.

We love you, Toby, and we miss you terribly. You were the sweetest dog I’ve ever had the fortune to have in my life. Thank you for accepting me so generously into your family. Thank you for taking me on those walks this past week; I wish I had thought to take more pictures of them. Thank you for being good to the kittens, and sharing your home with them. I will never ever forget you.

Toby!

Just a little life update. We’re in Chapel Hill for the weekend, and going to spend some time in Durham tomorrow. Also I update everyone on how the Zoom H1 is doing, and on our massive boardgame haul from the MACE game convention auction last weekend. Peace!

My first Zoom H1-enabled episode! I talk about getting the Zoom, about our fun at the Carolina RenFest, and about my forgetfulness in cancelling recurring payments.

I discuss my impressions of SQL PASS Summit 2013, wax rhapsodic about databases and my chosen profession of database administration, and then talk a bit about fun and hijinks at the Carolina Renaissance Festival. At the last minute, I also mention the upcoming Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit (where we’re heading this afternoon!), and Dylan Moran’s comedy show in Raleigh next Monday night. It’s a busy weekend!

Note: I recorded and produced this last week (thanks Auphonic!), but with the conference and RenFest weekend (more on that tomorrow), I never managed to *post* it. That Auphonic WP plugin is looking better and better…

Also, sorry for the noises at the beginning; my notes were too close to the microphone. Will try not to do that again!

I go meta for a bit, update folks on the guest room, and then I talk about a couple of RPGs I’ve been reading recently: Unknown Armies and Eclipse Phase. (This leads into a bit of a ramblefest about post-scarcity and such).

Today, I grumble about the government shutdown, and consider starting a clip show to point out inaccuracies and distortions by the politicians playing chicken with the government. Then I turn to Flattr, and talk about my decision to put buttons up on the site for it (and to use it in general to Flattr others). I mention that I will be at the SQL Pass Summit next week in downtow…er, uptown Charlotte…if you’re going to be there, make sure to try and find me! Finally, I talk about the League of Legends championship played last week, and how my own games have gone lately.
