My first post-Apple Live event podcast! Yes…even though I’m not a member of the Apple ecosystem, I’m a nerd, so I keep up. Today I offer my post-event thoughts on the new iPhones and the Apple Watch.
Chatting a bit tonight about writing an Amazon (and Goodreads) review of Peter Watt’s Echopraxia. Also, I’m psyched that I’m doing my first Linux bare metal (v. VM) install in several years. Cross your fingers, folks!!
Tonight, I talk about Echopraxia, the newest novel from one of my absolute favorite artists, Peter Watts. I ramble for a bit about my fanboy attraction to the man and his work, and then ramble some more about the book. I know…my current “review” is little more than a ramblefest, but I’ll endeavor to do better. I really do like this book.
Back on it! I pull a topic off the stack, and talk about our newest edition to the family, Rosie. She’s a pure rescue (ie, found out of the middle of the road out in the middle of nowhere, probably dumped), and she’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. Photos in the show notes. See ya again tomorrow!
Ah…ok. Did I really believe I was going to podcast through Dragon Con!? Well, it was fun, and I’ve mostly recovered; I guess I’m getting older. Let me rephrase that…I’m getting older.
*sigh* Dragon Con over, I’m old…I’ll cut it short today and ramble about more stuff tomorrow. Good to see everyone! Yep…I’ll finish out my 30 podcasts in somewhat more than 30 days!! Keep listening, my friends!
Exciting day today…first day of vacation, and we leave for Dragon Con tomorrow! In the meantime, though, life intrudes…I spent most of the day trying to get our van to validate for vehicle inspection. And failing…we just haven’t gotten it yet. More driving (once we’re back from Dragon Con); bummer.
In the meantime, though, we’re excited about getting ready for Dragon Con! I’m doing one of my most important jobs today; picking my nerd T-shirts! Totally fun, and totally important.
I also discuss auto-flattring via BeyondFlattr. I can’t do it yet, because my podcast subscriptions come from Feed.ly. But I don’t need to use that anymore, so once the DDoP are over, I’m going to reorganize things so that BeyondFlattr will work properly.
Today’s my last day of work before Dragon Con! Well…I’m working from 1am tonight until about 2:30 or 3…so I’m not quite done yet. But after *that*…I’m done until next Wednesday! (I’ve been taking off the Tuesday after Dragon Con for several years now; the older I get, the more recovery time I need. *sigh*)
A little wrinkle showed up today…we have to get Charlotte’s car through inspection by the end of the month, and it’s currently failing some OBD checks because the battery died recently and things haven’t reset yet. Gah. I’ve had this happen before, and it can be a pretty massive PITA. But we’ll figure it out.
Also, Peter Watt’s new novel, “Echopraxia”, came out today…I am *SO* psyched! I love his work so much. I’m quickly reading the novella “The Colonel” first; all I can say is, ‘Bonus!!’
I hope everyone is doing well, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at Dragon Con!
This episode, I have several topics to discuss. I enjoyed Paul Fidalgo’s Twitter followup to my Nexus 5 review, and I’ve decided to do a fairly thorough camera comparison between it and the iPhone 5C during Dragon Con this coming weekend.
Speaking of Dragon Con, we’re really looking forward to it, and I grabbed an Android app today that will help my Fallout costume. Very cool! Next, I discussed my decision to use Paul Fidalgo’s music as the intro to this podcast (probably sometime after the DDoP). Finally, I mentioned the soon-to-be-released videogame Destiny, and how interested I am in it. Probably my first full-price videogame purchase in several years.
Note: I wrapped up quickly because I started the podcast alone in the house, and folks started coming in right before I completed. Hopefully my volume didn’t change too much; I did feel like I got a bit quieter as I tried to rush through the ending. No biggie, but that’s what was going on.
Oops! So…it doesn’t take much to miss a day, does it? Dang it. Well, let’s just move forward; hopefully I can make yesterday my only miss during this Dog Days.
Today, I give my impressions (I wouldn’t really call it a review) of the Nexus 5. tl;dl — it’s the bomb. First smartphone I’ve ever used that I think could be some people’s primary computing device. We really are entering (yet another) new era.
